Measure What Matters (2018) chronicles John Doerr’s lifelong journey of helping organizations implement objectives and key results – otherwise known as OKRs. With the help of OKRs, companies like Google and nonprofits like the Gates Foundation have been able to transform the way they set goals to reach new heights.

About the author

John Doerr is an American investor and venture capitalist who has mentored countless CEOs and founders on the magic of OKRs. In addition to working at venture-capital firm Kleiner Perkins, he served as a member of President Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board.

Word of the Day:

  • FOFO - Fear of Finding Out. I found this term while reading one of today's news articles above. Context below:

Among the most valuable qualities for CMOs will be a collaborative and commercially oriented mindset, said Gartner’s McIntyre. A bigger focus on growth comes as 55% of marketing decision-makers report their campaigns sometimes or always fail to justify their investments, per Gartner.

“With many CMOs, they are afflicted with the same condition, and it’s called FOFO, which stands for fear of finding out,” said Ross Martin, co-founder and president of Known. “It’s not good when you wake up and you find out that you’ve wasted $30 million or $40 million in upper- or lower-funnel spend.”

Metric of the Day:

  • Unique Reach - the number of distinct individuals who have been exposed to a particular marketing cmpaign or advertisement. Unlike total impressions, which can count multiple exposures to the same individual, unique reach focuses solely on counting each person once, regardless of how many times they've seen or interacted with the content.

Tool of the Day:

  • Pardot - a SaaS marketing automation platform by Salesforce. It is designed to help businesses generate more leads, close deals faster, and accelerate marketing ROI. It is particularly popular among B2B companies for its ability to automate marketing tasks, track visitor behavior, and more effectively manage the lead lifecycle from initial interest through to becoming a customer.
